A collection of articles all about Sandos Playacar Beach Resort & Spa in the gated city of Playacar Mexico.  Playacar is located just south of Playa del Carmen and about 50 minutes from Cancun International Airport.  They offer one of the most family friendly timeshare vacation promotions available in the Riviera Maya.

Ways To Save On Your Sandos Resort Stay

Save Even More On Sandos Resorts!

Ways To Save Even More

As a marketing professional I am always looking for reviews, guest bloggers and website links!  If you are a small business owner you’ll probably relate.  Below are some ideas as to what I would consider a possible trade that would get you a bigger discount.

Royal Elite & Sandos Resort Reviews

I am always looking for feedback on the Royal Elite Vacation Club and Sandos Resorts.  I love this resort chain and am always looking for new and exciting information to share with my readers.  There are many things a person could do here.  You could review your stay in general or pick something specific like the Eco Tour at Sandos Caracol.

You could just fetch menus and other resort correspondence that I have still not gotten from my resort reps.  Things like the room service menus, spa services menus, wine menus and a bunch more.  These also change by year and the last ones I have received are from 2016!

There are monkeys and other critters that I have written about and could use more videos and written content on.  There are some interesting Mayan Myths that could be written about and expand on.  Heck, there are fish, turtles birds and other things that no one has written about and are all game for a better deal!

Now a final thought here is, if we make a deal keep it!  I have had over a dozen families swear they would produce something and they have not.  If you fail to produce our deal you have to pay back or won’t get the refund promised.  Also your work should be of good quality.

Guest Blogging On Fun Things To Do

I am always looking for content and writers of content.  If you like to write and can create blog style posts, you have something to trade!  I have several sites like the one you are on and I Want To Travel To.  The latter has or needs content around fun things to do and see in several demographics (Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos).

If your a blogger or writer reach out to me and lets see what kind of deal we can make to help each other out.  I actually have a longer article about this found here:  (Write for us)

Link Building Resources

This is one of the most valuable things you could have to offer!  I am a web strategist and looking to build links to several web resources including this one.  Your website does need to meet some requirements and the better your website is the more you have to offer and bargain for.

As a side note here…  I have several websites and they have good value (high rank).  If you are in the home services industry I have a site that is incredible and would boost you in the search results.  So to sweeten the deal I would link to you through my home services company website and you could link to one of my two sites in tourism.  You could do that through some form of article about your 2019/2020 vacation.

So the way this would work depends on the niche of your website, age of your site and the overall value that my research tools put on your content.  You would also need to keep the article or link active forever or for a time that we negotiate on.

Got Another Idea?

I am a sole proprietor and always looking to expand and become more!  If you have an idea, let’s chat!  Even if your a competitor I am willing to speak with you.  Above all things I look to protect my interests and the interests of the resort and consumers that I serve.  Serve being the keyword here!

Playacar: A Directory To Everything Here!

Playacar MexicoAre you looking for a very secure area to spend your next vacation?  Playacar Mexico was designed for just that, scared insecure vacationers.  Playacar is located just south of Playa Del Carmen and is a gated secure are that you have to go through security to get into.  Even better than that is the independent security that each of the resorts offers it’s guests.

Videos:  A general video playlist of everything Playacar.

Videos include the Xaman Bird Aviary, Xaman Mayan Ruins, the general shopping area, Playacar Beach and the pro golf course.

Background Of Playacar Mexico

Playacar Mexico is a gated community that was started in 1979 and consists of 2 phases.  Phase One consists of High end housing which includes some of the most expensive beachfront property in the area.  Phase two consists of Phase 2 a large golf course, more houses, condominiums, a bird aviary park, small shopping area and all inclusive resorts.  Phase two is the larger part of the playacar development.

Phase one has just one entrance and exit which has a security checkpoint.  Phase two has 4 entrances and exits which are also guarded.  The main entrance to phase two is off of 10th avenue.

The beach front area in front of both phases is approximately 2.5 miles and has few public access points.  If you are not staying in Playacar phase one or two, then you will have to walk down from Playa Del Carmen (north of the development).  The phase two side of Playacar has the big hotels and resorts which are mainly all inclusives.

Each resort and hotel has their own security and they own the beach chairs throughout the area.  There is no public service here for those that are not staying in the corresponding hotel or resorts.

Playacar has security at the entrances, within the resorts and roaming throughout the entire development.  The roads are nice to bike, walk and run and are well maintained throughout the development.

Playacar Hotels & Resorts:

There are a over 2 dozen resorts & hotels in the gated city of Playacar.  They include all inclusives and non inclusives.  Some appear to be in construction as they were listed for sale.  In most cases I did not post the realtor or sales site as that will soon come down.  If you find a link to a property and I don’t have it, post it in the comments below.

Playacar Villas, Apartments & Homes

Here is a list of all the villas, apartments and homes that are for rent throughout Playacar.  You can find many of these on AirBnb and VRBO.  If the property had a website I listed it for your review.  These place come fully furnished and have extra amenities like pools and everything needed to live short or long term.  Definately check as each one will be different and unique.

Playacar Bed & Breakfasts

Looking for something a little more personal with a homeowners touch?  Bed and Breakfast are a great way to experience home while away.  Here is a collection of B-n-B’s located withing the Playacar Mexico division.

Playacar Condominiums

There are a few condos or condominiums inside Playacar.  In fact, they are still building some towards the back end of Playacar.  Where I could I added links so you could check them out.  In many cases the main property did not have a website.  In many of those cases I found the next best link and shared it.  Many of these larger condo systems have unit that are for rent on AirBnB.  Those would be listed above in the villa, apartment and homes section.

Playacar Other Things To Note, See & Do

Here is a collection of the many stores, services and shoppes within the Playacar division and a few just on the outskirts.  Where possible I have included links to their websites and in English if possible.  Have a look at all the things you can find in Playacar Mexico.

Google Playacar Map

The map below is fully interactive and will allow you to see where all the above places are actually at.  The entire Phase Two area is actually a circle with roads that come off that circle and dead end.  The Phase One section is all the way to the right and close to the ocean.  It is a single road that runs north to south.  Playacar is located 50 minutes south of the Cancun International Airport.

Hard Rock Campo de Golf Playacar Mexico

The Hard Rock Golf Course is an all inclusive golfing experience located inside the Playacar complex.  The course was designed by Robert von Hagge and is a Riviera Maya 18 hole par 72 course.  They offer club rental, shoe rental, golf carts and several other amenities.   Here is a YouTube Playlist of all 18 holes!

Looking To Plan A Wedding In Playacar Mexico?

One of the nicest areas of beach in Playacar is located in front of the Sandos Playacar Beach Resort & Spa.  If you are looking for a place in Playacar to plan your wedding or even the renewing of your vows, Sandos Playacar should be an option you look into.  I have written a post about the many options you have before you customize to your personal taste.  Check it out here:  Playacar Weddings

Is It Safe To Take An Uber In Cancun Mexico?

So far to my knowledge there have not been any serious injuries to passengers taking Ubers to and from locations in Cancun.  There have been reported attacks on Uber Drivers though.  Several passengers have been held up and caught up in incidents between Uber and taxi drivers.

There are others options for you to choose should you worry about these the conflict between Taxi;’s and Uber.

Other Taxi Apps In Cancun:

Included here would be the many areas associated with the Yucatan & Quintana Roo provinces.  Areas include Merida, Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Puerto Morelos, Tulum, Cozumel, Akumal, Valladolid and Coba.

Here are some other options to consider!  Not all these options are available in Cancun but they do have a presence in Mexico and are expected in Cancun before the end of 2020!

Cabify Or Easy Rideshare Taxi App

Another 2019 option for a rideshare taxi app is Cabify or Easy.  They seem to be less known but a more accepted transfer option in Cancun.  Get the Easy/Cabify App on Google Play here.  Looking for the Apple version of Easy/Cabify, go here.

There are a bunch of reviews for the Cabify/Easy Taxi Cab App but they are mixed in that they included over 30 countries and 130 cities.  Hard to tell which reviews are just for Cancun and the areas around Cancun like Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Tulum and Cozumel.

Check out the Main website for Cabify here.  You can also visit the old Easy Taxi website here, but it is not in English and renders funny.

A few features about the app would be the ability to share your ride details to a friend for added security and pictures of the driver that is picking you up.  The app will also show you the mak, model and plate number of your ordered taxi.

Looking for more information?  Check out Cabify/Easy on Wikipedia.

InDriver Rideshare Taxi App

DiDi offers a slew of services and is now hiring representatives in Mexico.  Visit the DiDi Linkedin page here for details and current listings.  DiDi offers services like Uber plus bus, taxi, bike and more.

Lyft Rideshare Taxi App

Looks like Lyft is not in Cancun or Mexico.  They appear focused on the USA and Canadian markets only.  I personally like Lyft over Uber and have only ever tried these two.  In Denver Colorado, Lyft is my favorite service to use in getting around.  In Daytona Beach Florida, Lyft is really hard to get if at all and Uber is king there.

Here is the full list of cities with Lyft!

Nesko Rideshare Taxi App

Nesko has partnered with taxi drivers in Mexico to help them recover the ground lost to private taxi services like Uber and Cabify.  You can pick up the Android version of Nesko here or the Apple version of Nesko here.

On Wednesday March 13, 2019, two hundred new fully equipped taxis were released onto the streets of Cancun that the governor says will offer greater safety to users.  These new taxis have 360 degree cameras and GPS systems.

Sandos Playacar Review

Airport and Transportation to/from Airport

A Seek and Go representative was waiting for us right outside the airport doors. She met us and took us to our driver. We rode in a full size passenger van. It was a very comfortable one hour ride and the driver was nice and informative. The fare to the resort was included in the package price.

We booked our return ride from the Seek and Go representative inside the resort lobby and the fare was paid at checkout. They charged $50 USD. It was the same van as the ride to the resort. It is required to leave 4 hours prior to the flight. It is a one hour ride to the airport and you have to check in 3 hours early. Getting through security was not an issue. You have to be sure not to lose the customs receipt that you are given upon arrival or you will have to pay $30 to replace it. Once through security, there are plenty of shops and restaurants to occupy your time.

Arrival at the Resort

There are hotel staff that take your suitcases from the van and hang on to them until you have your room assignment. Once you know your room number they will deliver your bags to your room. At check in, the reception staff explain that you have to confirm your timeshare right away and take the tour. They put a hold on your credit card for $1,500 and if you do not attend then you will be charged. They scan each person’s passport so there is no way to try and get away claiming that a child is under  12 if they are not.  The staff are very nice and they have fresh lemonade to drink while you wait to get checked in. They put a bracelet on your wrist that you keep on the whole time you are there. The adults get a dark blue bracelet and children under 18 get a light blue one. You show your bracelet to get into the restaurants and cafes. There is also a chip in the bracelet that allows you to open the door to your room so there is no need to carry around a room key. They also give you a card to check out beach towels. After getting checked in, we went over to the desk inside the lobby and confirmed out timeshare presentation.

We had a Riviera King Junior Suite, which consisted of a king size bed, a bunk bed with a full size mattress on bottom and twin size mattress on top. There were also two small cribs if people had small children. There is a safe in the closet for passports, money, and other valuables. There is also an iron and ironing board that we used and was quite good. There are also a couple of umbrellas in the closet, which we were lucky enough not to have had to use. The shower has a bath gel and a shampoo dispenser so if you did not want to bring your own shampoo, you would not have to. The A/C has a thermostat but does not work because it is centrally controlled. In the middle of January we did not want to use the A/C and turned it off. There is a sliding glass door leading to the balcony and our room faced the pool. There is a swimsuit rack on the balcony to dry the swimsuits on overnight. The TV gets several English channels.

Be sure to bring your own adapters with multiple plugs. Our room had only 3 available plugs for charging electronics. One was next to the King bed, one next to the bunk bed, and the other was located behind the refrigerator. There is an alarm clock next to the king bed, but if you wanted to charge your phone overnight you had to unplug it. If you come with a family of four and each has a phone to charge, you would not be able to charge them all at the same time. So it is good to bring an adapter that has multiple plugs. That way you can plug the adapter into one outlet and still be able to charge all your devices.

All the restaurants are good. The main restaurant is the International Buffet with a large selection of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ate there for breakfast and lunch but went to the other restaurants for dinner. They also serve a buffet breakfast in the restaurant right below the lobby. It is similar to the choices in the main International Buffet but is smaller. The advantage is that it was close to our room.

There was an outdoor Mexican buffet on the Friday night that we were there. There were no tables to sit at but it was fast and good. Artisans had set up their wares and you could walk along and look at their artwork, statuettes, and other crafts. Of course, they wanted to sell them to you but they were not pushy about it. This was located in the central plaza area next to the Meeting Place building and the International Buffet restaurant.

There is only about an hour and a half gap between when breakfast is over and when lunch is served and the same between lunch and dinner. There are cafes open from 10AM to 11PM where you can get snacks if you get hungry in between. The Cupcake Café serves coffee drinks (cappuccinos, lattes) and you can also get smoothies. Next door is a place that has a burrito/taco bar. I did not eat there but the kids did and liked it a lot.

Our room was the opposite side of the resort from the beach. There are carts that drive back and forth. You hop on and ride to the beach and then back to the room. The main buffet restaurant is close to the beach and you can ride the cart to get there. There is also a Nature Walk that cuts through the center of the resort that goes from the lobby area to the Meeting Place, which is next to the International Buffet restaurant. At a fairly brisk walk it only takes 6 or 7 minutes to get there. There are a lot of little signs along the way that had inspirational messages. They were things like one of my favorites, “Everything in excess in bad- except vacations”.

The Wi-Fi in the lobby was strong. In our room, and in the restaurants, it was OK. The beach was spotty. I could send and receive text messages on the beach but not all the time. I did receive a phone call from a friend stateside while I was on the beach. He called to talk to me about the snow storm that was hitting Boston at the time. It was a high of 7 degrees that day. I had to inform him that I was unconcerned because I was sitting on the beach in Mexico!

We have T-Mobile and I have an iPhone 6S. My wife has a newer iPhone and got better reception. She would send me a message and sometimes I got it right away and other times I would not get it until I got close to the lobby. However, whenever I sent her a message she got it right away no matter where she was.

Evening Shows

Each night had a different show. We saw a traditional Mexican dance show and a Shakira tribute show. Both were excellent. The theater is outdoors and you sit at round tables meant for 4 people. You can bring your drinks to the table and there are also waitresses who will bring you drinks, as well. While we were there in the middle of January, the evenings were a little chilly. I wished I had brought a sweater or a light jacket.

Timeshare Presentation

We met at the Meeting Place at 8:30AM. We checked in at a desk and they took us to another office where they took copies of our driver’s licenses to verify that my wife and I lived at the same address. They also took a copy of my credit card. They asked about our combined salary but did not ask for any proof. Next, we were introduced to our hostess, who was to show us around and explain how the program worked. We started off by eating breakfast in the International Buffet and we got to know more about each other. Or rather, her getting to know more about us. Because we had already been there a couple of days, we knew the resort, the pools, and the beach so there was no need for us to tour these. We went see one of the haciendas, where the members stay when they are there. These had three rooms- two bedrooms and a living room in the middle. Each bedroom had its own bathroom. There was a small pool in the back along with a patio. The hacienda had an upstairs and a downstairs that shared the pool and patio. The members also had access to members-only pools and clubs for grabbing a drink. Members also got better quality drinks. Once we finished the tour we were brought back to the Mexican restaurant and sat at a table. Our hostess was thorough with the information.  Of course, her job is to sell so she wanted us to buy into their program. I had come prepared for a hard sell but they did not do that. We had asked a lot of questions and were straight forward with explaining how the program did not fit our family at this particular time. The way we explained it with using numbers of how much their program cost, $21,000 at 14% interest to be paid over 5 years might work for some people did not work for us. Her supervisor came over to the table and I explained it to him, as well. I broke it down on paper and showed him how it did not fit for us. They were nice and while I am sure that they were disappointed they were not pushy and did not give us any kind of attitude, which was what I was half expecting. When we gave them our final answer, no, they took us over to a counter where we were given a piece of paper verifying that we had completed our obligation of participating in the presentation. We needed to show this upon check out so we would not be charged the $1,500 hold that they had put on my credit card. The presentation was supposed to take 90 minutes. We met at 8:30, had breakfast, and did not finish until 1PM.

Outside Excursions

One afternoon we went to Sandos Caracol. The taxi ride was $17USD each way and took around 20 minutes. Once there we could enjoy all facilities and eat in their restaurants. The beach at Playacar is so much better. The Eco resort has a better water park for kids. It also has better nature walks and more animals such as the coatis.

One evening we went into the town of Playa Carmen. The taxi ride was $7USD each way and took around 10 minutes. There were lots of stores to walk around. We did not eat, but did have a drink in one of the restaurants. They have evening shows in the main plaza. The night we were there we saw a Mayan show. We sat down on the step in front of the performance area and were on the front row. The show was excellent. Afterwards, you could take photos with the dancers who were dressed in Mayan costumes. They work on tips.

We also did a snorkel tour offered by the resort dive shop. We took a 20 minute boat ride to a small cove. This must have been the only spot around because there were several other boats there, as well. The guide asked if we wanted the briefing in Spanish or English. All of us were American so we said in English. He did it in Spanish and it was a pretty lame briefing even in Spanish. He did not explain how to get on and off the boat or that we were to stay with him on the tour. He just kind of said that you get into the water and kind of go here and there. There are some fish and coral. Let’s go. There was not much coral at all. I saw some small brain coral and a patch of lumpy coral here and there. It was mostly rocks. The guide brought bread so fish would come up to us. There were not very many of them and after the bread was gone so were they.  The only highlight was a green sea turtle and a southern sting ray that would come close by several times.  It cost $45/adult and $35/children. If it was not for the fact that my kids had never seen a turtle or stingray it would not have been worth it.

Sandos Playacar Packing Tip FAQ's:

What do you recommend to pack?

Packing depends on the season in which you visit Sandos Playacar.  Typically Playacar has sunshine every day with short bursts of rain, if it even rains at all.  From January through May, Sandos Playacar usually has very little rain and the rains during the rest of the year are brief.

Definitely bring water shoes, trekking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, snorkel mask, biodegradable sunscreen, biodegradable mosquito repellent, power adapters (220 to 110 volts), power connectors,  personal careSandos Playacar What Should We Pack items, and any medication you will need.

Mexico uses the American standard 110 outlet, so if you don’t have devices that use 110 you will need a power adapter.  Don’t worry if you forget something.  There are stores and a supermarket close by.

Traveling November – February:

Winter on the beaches of Mexico is much calmer than winter in countries like North America.  You will never see snow or ice in Playacar and you can swim during the daytime, no problem.  However, they do suggest packing a light jacket and a pair of pants.  It can get cold at night in Playacar.

Traveling March – May:

Springtime on the Mexican Caribbean brings more sunshine and the heat.  There still is little rain in Playacar during these months.  Sandos recommends packing a hat so you can protect your head from the sun.

Traveling June – October:

These months bring more rain than the rest of the year.  This serves as a refreshing break from the high summer heat of Playacar.  In this season you just need to pack an umbrella.

Can I pack something extra to help local communities?

Yes! Thanks to the Pack for a purpose program together with the Sandos Foundation, our guests are able to bring with them some needed items which will be donated to local kids and their families to help them improve their life conditions. You can learn more on the Pack for a Purpose program as well as find a list of the most needed items here

What should I expect on my visiSandos Playacar Beach Resort main imaget to Sandos Playacar

It is really important to mention that Sandos Playacar is a large property with guestrooms, restaurants and activity areas distributed throughout the hotel. Golf carts are available for transportation around the resort, and you will find stop rides in different spots of the hotel to pick you up and take you to common areas. In spite of this, we recommend you to be ready for long walks if you do not want to wait for the golf carts.

How is the weather at Sandos Playacar?

We remind you that we are located in the Caribbean, so we have a tropical climate; that is, we typically have sun almost all day and if it rains, the rainfall is usually short and light. Due to this, the area humidity level is high.

You do get charged a bit more for being inside the gated city of Playacar.  Expect 100 pesos each way or more depending on how many passengers.

Original Article –

The only modification is NO ACCESS to the Ala cart restaurants.  Hours of access are 11am to 11pm with access to the buffets and all regular all inclusive amenities in the family areas.

There are a bunch of questions that were answered in the comments of this post (before it was taken down) which I would like to point out.  I think this information is important and once again sets Sandos Resorts aside from other all inclusive resorts options in the area.

  • You get unlimited visits during your stay.
  • You can use the facilities the day of check-in (before 3pm) but NOT the day of check-out.
  • You can stay till the normal day pass expires in the evening (11am to 11pm).
  • You can eat at all the buffet restaurants and drink at all the bars (normal hours & rules).
  • You must pay for your own transportation to and from the other resort(s).
  • You need to let the front desk know you’re going.
  • Normal day pass rates are waved but they would be $100 per adult and $50 per child.
  • It is 6 miles between the Caracol and Playacar, about $15 each way.
  • The Fifth Avenue Playa del Carmen shopping district is between Caracol and Playacar.
  • The Sandos Cancun is 10 minutes from the airport and 45 minutes to Caracol, 55 minutes to Playacar.
  • Transportation is offered at the resort and taxi’s are readily available everywhere.
  • Parking a rental car is free during your stay at any Sandos Resorts.
Program Notes From The Sandos Blog

Here are a few snap shots of important information that I summarized about this incredible program.  Take a minute and flip through them before your stay.  My favorite is the usage the day of check-in and the day of check-out.  You can make a 5 night stay 6 full days of fun!
